- Burslem the Factory Cat Christmas
1994
People
and Processes - Robert Feather B.A. Hons. (As
printed in this edition of The Magazine of the Official International
Wade Collector's Club.) Bob's design and modeling
career began when he left Leicester Polytechnic in 1979 with
a BA Hons. in Industrial Design in Ceramics and Glass. At first
he became a technician for the Polytechnic in the ceramics department.
He soon left to become a tableware ceramics modeller at Royal
Doulton where he remained for six years. Whilst there he modeled
many items in various ranges such as Kenilworth, Maselle, For
All Seasons and others. It was here that Bob began to specialize
in bone china tableware with elaborate ornamentation. In November
85, Bob left Royal Doulton to join Wade Potteries in order to
utilize his own abilities more fully. At Wade he has designed,
developed and modeled well over one thousand pieces in the nine
years he has been here. Typically a client will arrive with
a rough idea which is either given to Bob or another designer
who will paint a visual. Bob sometimes models a finished scale
prototype making modifications until the customer is satisfied
with the appearance. There is much in common with the way a
bespoke tailor works although he rarely meets a client. After
the finished design is approved, Bob will then develop and model
the item to fit in with Wade's production methods. In his years
at Wade, Bob has modeled many items, various novelty figures
of animals and snowmen, the Tutti Fruitti, Ringtons and Wade
Ireland tableware ranges and vast numbers of teapots like the
English Life collection. Customers have included department
stores such as Harrods, Boots, BHS along with distilleries like
Chivas, Langs and Ballantines. Bob, is married to Jan who is
head of Geography at a local school, Longton High, Bob's interests
include Rugby as a player and spectator.

Q: Where can we obtain Whimsical Wades
by Pat Murray first published in 1982?
A: We believe that this
book is no longer available, although you may be lucky to
find a copy in you local reference library. However we understand
that Pat has found a publisher and may be producing an updated
version in the future. Details will be included in The
Magazine when available.
Q: We are constantly receiving letters asking
for price guides and general price information.
A: We understand that
Ian Warner and Mike Posgay are currently working on an updated
price guide in both £'s sterling and $ US We will be
letting you have full information on the prices and availability
in the near future.
Q: We have had a number of letters asking why
we are not producing Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs as part
of our current range, particularly to coincide with the re-release
of the Walt Disney film.
A: The license to produce
these figures expired at the end of 1986 and was not renewed
by Wade. Subsequently another manufacturer obtained the license
which precludes Wade from producing an updated version. Hence
the high value of the existing Wade sets.
Q: How can we obtain one of the special brown
Spaniel Dog produced for the first United Kingdom Wade Collector's
Fair?
A: A limited Edition
of 1,000 Spaniel Dogs was produced by Wade exclusively for
the Fair and was totally sold out in a very short space of
time. They can now only be obtained by collectors sales and
swops.
