Wade Ceramics the leading collectables manufacturer from Stoke-on-Trent
is set to unveil a very special commemorative 2004 membership
piece to its extremely loyal fan base. To celebrate the 50th
anniversary of the Whimsie a delightful larger reproduction
of one of the first whimsies ever modelled will be produced.
Unlike the original Whimsie which was Wade marked on its side,
the larger scale version will have the official Wade back stamp
authenticating that it is a highly collectable Wade design made
to the company's high standards.
Available from January 2004, the beautifully crafted white
'leaping lamb' with brown muzzle and green base stands at 8.5cm
high. This endearing character with its joyous leaping stance
is sure to make an impression in any collection as the perfect
celebratory piece.
First crafted in 1953, the models got their name from Mr Wade's
secretary who described the models as 'whimsical'. Whimsies
were originally designed as pocket money toys for children and
sold as sets of five for 5/9d.
There are currently more than 10,000 members of the Official
Wade Collectors' Club and the 'leaping lamb' will be available
to all members as they join or renew for 2004.
Joining the club costs £27 and includes a membership
certificate, membership card, official quarterly magazine and
annual collectors pin along with a 10 per cent discount on all
non Collectors Club products.
