A scheme to help redundant pottery managers back in to work
got under way today.
Twenty four ex-employees of Royal Doulton, Wedgwood, Wade Ceramics
and Stoke Potteries today began an 18-week training programme.
It will lead to a foundation certificate in professional management.
Organiser Jan Ivan-Duke said: We are trying to
update their knowledge in management and management best practice.
Previously, they have been in roles which are specific, specialist
and technical."
Now we are trying to broaden that knowledge and
bring it up-to-date.''
The course is being held one day a week at the North Stafford
Hotel, Stoke.
Teaching is by Staffordshire University with input from the
Michelin Pioneer Consultancy Group.
If there is the demand, we will begin another programme
beginning in about six weeks time,'' said Mr Ivan-Duke.
Money secured by Staffordshire TEC from the Employment Service
can only be used to help managers made redundant from specific
firms.
As well as the four listed above, it also includes Staffordshire
Tableware.
