NatWest Pig Colorways
Over the last few years, a number of Nat West Pigs have turned up in unusual colors. Very few special colorways of the pigs were produced as prizes for Nat West for their Piggy Press, but it appears there are many more of these "specials" floating out there than were ever actually produced. There were two competitions held by the Piggy Press for special colorway pigs. The prize for the competition, "Find the Gold Woody", was a solid 24K gold leaf Woody. Another documented competition had a prize of a solid 24K gold leaf Sir Nathaniel. The winners of the special versions of the pigs received a letter of authenticity with the pieces, as well as the pieces being documented in the Piggy Press.

As of yet, there are no documented Nat West pigs in anything but the original colors. The Nat West Pigs are very hard to trace as Nat West was taken over by another bank and the many changeovers and mergers have made it impossible to keep track of the former workers and papers relating to the pig commissions.

The original Baby Woody was not made by Wade but was produced by Sunshine Ceramics. They were unable to keep up with pig money box demand, so Wade received the Nat West contract. This original Woody does not have a Wade backstamp, since it was not produced by Wade.
I have heard that all the pigs were produced in gold, is this true?

While this is true, it is impossible to have an entire set. Only 20-25 Baby Woody pigs were produced in gold leaf and only 5 of each of the rest of the pigs were. Cousin Wesley, the latest addition to the set, was NEVER produced in gold. Wade is not even for certain that they were the company that made the gold Woody for the magazine competition.

Shown below is a set of Gold Nat West Piggies. The authenticity of these money boxes are highly doubtful.
Fake Gold NatWest Pig Set To make things worse, many are improperly "restored" - they are so badly painted and touched-up they don't even look close to the originals, and it's clear the work isn't even done by a professional. Many times the parts that should have been decals are handpainted. Also many of the bright enamel glazes that were left off will be painted as the enamel glaze and decals are the last steps to complete the piece. These so-called "restored" pieces are an insult to all aspects of porcelain production, collecting, and restoration - and will never have any value at all.
