Backstamp Trickery and Slight of Hand
The coloring of the glaze looks like it is correct to possibly be from Wade. Actually it is very close to the NatWest pig pink glaze. Once the piece is picked up though, it is very light weight - far too light to be of Wade porcelain. The clay body of the piece is chalky and similar to earthenware. When the piece was washed, the clay body soaked up water and could be seen through the glaze on the outside of the piece. The feet also has holes which is very strange to see in a piece that already has a rather large drain hole at the stopper. The backstamp was used by Wade in 1953 and the piece seems very recent by the condition.. |
